When we completed the Open Data Portal project, the question we heard most was "Why do you share this data for free?" Our answer is simple: information produced by an organisation working for the public good belongs to the public.
Open data saves researchers from collecting the same data over and over, gives policymakers the means for evidence-based decisions and makes the organisation itself more accountable.
